The Dionex Aquion HPIC System performs ion analyses using suppressed or non-suppressed conductivity detection. An ion chromatography system typically consists of a liquid eluent, a high-pressure pump, a sample injector, a guard and separator column, a chemical suppressor, a conductivity cell, and a data collection system.
Before running a sample, the ion chromatography system is calibrated using a standard solution. By comparing the data obtained from a sample to that obtained from the known standard, sample ions can be identified and quantitated. The data collection system, typically a computer running chromatography software, produces a chromatogram (a plot of the detector output vs. time). Among the advantages of electrolytic suppression are fast startup times, superior sensitivity for both cation and anion analysis, reduced background conductivity and enhanced day-to-day consistency.
The Dionex Aquion HPIC system is designed and optimized for applications using conductivity detection. The temperature-controlled, high-performance conductivity cell is unaffected by ambient temperature variations. In addition, digital control offers a wide dynamic range for detecting analytes with large concentration variations within the same sample.
The RFIC-EG electrolytically generates high-purity eluents on-line, ensuring perfectly consistent performance day to day, lab to lab, and operator to operator. With eluent generation, gradient separations can be as easy as isocratic applications. High purity eluents are generated from deionized (DI) water using the Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ EGC Eluent Generator Cartridge and then polished of contaminants using one of the Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ CR-TC Continuously Regenerating Trap Columns. This line of trap columns removes contaminants, thereby eliminating trace ionic impurities, such as carbonate, from the eluent stream. Control, status, and diagnostics are provided with the Chromeleon CDS software.
